acupuncture

Acupuncture is a healing practice created over 2000 years ago in China. It is based on the belief that health is determined by qi (pronounced “chee”), the vital life energy that flow through every living thing. This energy is believed to flow along pathways in the body called meridians. Each meridian is linked to a specific organ (i.e. the heart). If the flow of energy running along the meridian is balanced, the individual experiences good health.

In Chinese medicine, it believed health problems arise from interruptions in the energy in the body. Physical, chemical and emotional stressors can cause organs to malfunction, blood to stagnate and energy to be blocked. Acupuncture is used to restore these healing pathways by stimulating specific points on the body. Stimulating these points is believed to release the energy blockages and the body is better able to heal and maintain optimum health.

Does Acupuncture hurt?
In acupuncture, thin needles are inserted at specific points on the body and allowed to work for 30-40 minutes. Although there may be slight discomfort upon insertion, the treatment is virtually painless. During his treatments, Dr. Nick often connects certain needles to a special electroacupuncture healing device. This sends even more energy to the acupuncture point leading to faster, better health benefits. This sensation feels like a mild tingling.

Is Acupuncture safe?
Yes. Sterile, stainless steel needles of the highest quality are used at our clinic. Completely safe, acupuncture has no known side effects.

What type of health problems does Acupuncture help?
In China, acupuncture is successfully used for a wide variety of health problems. In the west, research studies have shown acupuncture to be helpful for chronic pain, arthritis, infertility and headaches. Dr. Nick often uses acupuncture when treating patients with the following conditions:

Anxiety
Chronic pain
Fibromyalgia
Infertility
Insomnia
Migraine headaches

How many sessions will I need?
This depends on the length of time the condition has been present. For instance, longstanding problems like fibromyalgia may require a dozen or so treatments whereas an acute migraine headache may respond with one treatment.

Will my insurance cover acupuncture?
More and more insurances are including acupuncture coverage. We will be happy to verify your acupuncture benefits.

chiropractic care

Chiropractic is one of the most popular forms of alternative healthcare in America today. Millions have found pain relief through chiropractic care without having to resort to drugs and surgery. Research studies have repeatedly shown chiropractic care to be one of the most effective treatments for back pain, neck pain and headaches. Far from just relieving back pain, chiropractic care is effective for treating a multitude of musculoskeletal problems including:

Sciatica Numbness/Tingling
Shoulder Problems Chronic pain
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Whiplash
Bulging discs Osteoarthritis
Knee pain Fibromyalgia

Dr. Nick Dimovski has delivered tens of thousands of chiropractic adjustments over his career. He uses a combination of traditional joint manipulation, instrument-assisted chiropractic and cutting-edge soft tissue techniques. Your body is unique and a one-size-fits-all style of chiropractic will not work for everyone. Unfortunately, this non-personalized approach is often the norm. in many chiropractic offices. Dr. Nick focuses getting his patients out of pain and back to their lives as fast as possible. Patients receive a carefully designed plan of treatment consisting of what will work best for their individual case. Some patients may only need low-force, softtissue therapies while others require a more forceful approach. Ultimately, your type of chiropractic care is determined by what will produce meaningful results for you in shortest of amount of time.

Are chiropractic adjustments safe?
Yes. Research studies have shown chiropractic care to be safer for thetreatment of musculoskeletal problems than drugs or surgery. Further evidence for chiropractic’s safety is evidenced by the significantly lowermalpractice insurance rates the chiropractic profession experiences in comparison to other healthcare professions.

Dr. Nick specializes in using extremely safe, instrument-assisted adjustments. This technique is perfect for treating the elderly, small children (including infants) and those who cannot tolerate hands-on treatments.

Once I start having chiropractic adjustments do I need them forever?
Absolutely not. Most of our patients are discharged after their conditions have resolved. Though some level of maintenance care is very beneficial in minimizing relapses, it is never forced upon our patients. You ultimately choose how far you want to take your chiropractic care.

Do chiropractic adjustments hurt?
Occasionally there is some muscle soreness not unlike that experienced after a workout at the gym. This is temporary and often goes away in a few hours. Dr. Nick takes careful measures such as using massage therapy and moist heat with adjustments to minimize any discomfort.

Do chiropractic adjustments only help alleviate pain?
Pain relief is only the tip of the iceberg. Chiropractic adjustments remove nerve interference in the body by aligning misaligned joints and taking pressure and tension off of nerves. The restoration of proper nerve flow in the body can produce a variety of health benefits. People who are treated with regular chiropractic care often report feeling more balanced, experience less muscle tension and joint stiffness and overall fell a greater sense of well-being. There is also emerging evidence that chiropractic care can benefit some non-musculoskeletal conditions like childhood ear infections, infantile colic, migraine headaches, high blood pressure and digestive problems.

homeopathy

Homeopathy is an increasingly popular form of natural medicine that has been practiced for over 200 years. The basic principles of homeopathy are ground in the fact that our bodies possess the inherent ability to heal and overcome disease, naturally. Symptoms are seen as the body’s efforts to protect itself against disease. In homeopathy, the focus is not to suppress symptoms but to stimulate the healing processes within the body.

Homeopathic remedies, carefully administered, can have a profound ability to assist the body in overcoming disease. These remedies are medicinal preparations specifically designed to activate healing pathways in body and mind. Conditions as diverse as anxiety and sinusitis both have effective remedies in Homeopathy. Remedies are primarily composed of diluted plant and herbal constituents and are placed in pellet, tablet or liquid form. They are usually taken on an empty stomach and held under the tongue while they dissolve.
What types of conditions does homeopathy treat? There is literally a homeopathic remedy for almost every medical condition. However, this does not mean that a remedy can cure a specific health problem. The remedy only assists the body in healing the condition itself. Dr Nick specializes in using homeopathic remedies to help the following conditions:

Allergies             Dizziness/Vertigo
Sinusitis             Infantile Colic
Cold/Flu              Acute and Chronic Pain

How effective are homeopathic treatments?
Homeopathy has been used for over 200 years and has been proven effectivein numerous clinical studies published in well-respected medical journals like the The Lancet and Pediatrics. Furthermore, Dr. Nick uses physician-exclusive remedies made by Heel Inc., which is widely regarded as the leading manufacturer in homeopathy.

How long will it take until I see improvement?
Symptomatic relief may be immediate i.e. allergy symptoms subsiding; therapeutic improvement typically occurs within 24 hours to 1 week. The efficacy depends on a number of factors including the dosage, the condition being treated (acute versus chronic), and the age and overall health of the patient.

Can I take prescription medications while using Homeopathicremedies?
Yes. There have never been any known drug interactions. In fact, homeopathic remedies are regarded as the safest natural products on the planet. This is why they can be given to infants, pregnant females, chronically ill patients and even pets without worries about side effects.

massage

Therapeutic massage performed by a licensed massage therapist is one of the best ways to decrease muscle tension and stress. It is extremely helpful in treating muscle spasms and pain, soreness from injury, and headaches. Massage works to relieve pain in a number of ways: by relaxing taut muscle and connective tissue fibers, by increasing blood flow, by breaking up scar tissue and adhesions, and by increasing lymphatic circulation.

How will a massage feel?
Massage on healthy tissue is almost always pleasant. It may include kneading, stroking, holding specific points, tapping and other modalities. A licensed therapist knows ways minimize any potential discomfort without sacrificing effectiveness.

Is massage always appropriate?
Massage is not advisable for everyone. Those with a history of phlebitis, high blood pressure or other vascular disorders should be cautious with deep tissue massage. At the Center for Natural health, Dr. Nick supervises all massage patients and communicates to the therapist any contraindications before the massage session.
Physician supervised massage is a huge bonus for our massage clients and ultimately makes the treatments more effective and safer.

Are there different types of massage?
Yes. Our experienced massage therapist, Camille Harbis, is trained in Swedish and Deep tissue massage, among others. She specializes in Sports massage.  In Sports massage, massage is combined with stretches and guided movements.  This helps faster resolution with problems such as muscle strains and exercise-induced soreness.

How much will it cost?
Our massages are reasonably prices and we also offer discount packages.
Most importantly, our therapist goes out of her way to spend extra time and effort with each and every client.  At the end of your therapeutic massage, you will realize it was worth every penny.

nutritional therapy

Nutraceutical therapy is the practice of using specialized nutritional supplements and dietary changes to alleviate symptoms, control and sometimes eliminate disease, and promote health and longevity. It goes well beyond taking a multivitamin or increasing the amount of fruits and vegetables in the diet. Pharmaceutical grade supplements/herbs are carefully administered by a healthcare professional proficient in nutrition. The health benefits are impressive with outcomes that can rival pharmaceutical treatments but without the dangerous side effects.

Dr. Nick Dimovski is a board certified nutrition specialist who specializes in nutraceutical therapy. In fact, he is one on the few board certified nutritional doctors in the Chicagoland area. Because of his advanced training, he knows how to safely administer higher potency natural products in an efficacious manner.

Patients from all over the Chicagoland area, northern Indiana and Michigan have come to the Center for Natural Health for our nutraceuatical therapy. The biggest advantage we have over other facilities and health food stores is that Dr. Nick orders specialized blood, urine and saliva tests to determine exactly what a patient needs nutritionally speaking. This takes out the majority of the guesswork when it comes to using supplements and ultimately saves our patients money on useless pills and potions.

What types of conditions does nutraceuatical therapy work for?
Many conditions being treated by pharmaceuticals can be effectively addressed with supplements and diet. Dr. Nick specializes in helping the following conditions: ADD/ADHD, Obesity, Fatigue, Allergies (especially food allergies), Autoimmune problems (Lupus, Fibromyalgia, Rheumatoid Arthritis), Acid Reflux, Insomnia, Diabetes and High Blood Pressure.

What kind of tests do you perform to determine nutritional needs?
Routine blood and urinalysis are sometimes ordered as a general screen of health status. However, in order to do create a customized nutritional care program it is often necessary to go beyond these standard tests. That is why we use the following tests:

1. Functional Intracellular Analysis (FIA). This serum blood test looks at inside your cells to determine the levels of critical vitamins, minerals, amino acids, essential fatty acids. For more information check out www.spectracell.com.

2. Lipoprotein Particle Test (LPP). This test also from Spectracell Labs assesses your risk factors for stroke and heart disease like nothing else. It goes way beyond cholesterol and includes newer markers for heart disease such as C-reactive protein, genetic predispositions and cholesterol particle sizes. Most insurance still cover this test.

3. ALCAT test. The Alcat test is the one the best ways to determine hidden food sensitive. Patients are always amazed at how many foods and other substances they are found to be sensitive to. These undiagnosed sensitivities often lead to a variety of symptoms including weight gain, fatigue and brain fog. By eliminating an offending food, patients find they lose weight, have more energy, think more clearly and overall feel better. Check out www.alcat.com for more information.

4. ZRT homone testing. Using saliva and blood spot tests one can accurately learn where there hormonal levels are. These tests are invaluable in treating hormone related conditions such menopausal symptoms, infertility, low thyroid, low adrenal gland function and prostate issues.

Will I have to spend a lot of money on nutritional supplements?
The answer is generally no. Because patients are typically tested for their specific nutritional needs they end up buying only what they truly need. We pride ourselves on offering only the finest quality, physican-exclusve products to our patients at prices that are lower than other facilities.

rehabilitation

In the past chiropractic care consisted mostly of spinal manipulation. In recent years, however, the profession has evolved to integrating rehabilitation into patient care. This has led to better outcomes including faster pain relief and lasting correction of underlying structural problems. At the Center for Natural Health, we integrate various physical therapy modalities into our care programs to help our patients achieve optimal results.

What kind of therapies do you offer?
We primarily concentrate on hands-on manual therapies. This includes myofascial release, stretching and trigger point therapy. Other physical therapy treatments we use include:
Ultrasound
Electric Muscle Stimulation
Kinesio-taping
Therapeutic Exercises
Active Release Technique
Traction and Flexion-Distraction

I have seen Kinesio-taping on TV recently. Why has it become so popular?
Kinesio-taping is a muscle, tendon and ligament therapy used for acute and chronic soft tissue problems. Special stripes of waterproof tape are carefully placed around the problem area. This improves circulation, decreases inflammation and increases lymph flow. Dr. Nick has used kinesiotaping for over nine years and is certified by the kinesiotaping board.

What is Active Release Technique?
Active Release Therapy (ART) is soft tissue therapy focused on releasing tight, contracted muscles and connective tissue. Scar tissue and adhesions are located by the doctor and then loosened by gentle, sweeping maneuvers using finger pressure. ART is beneficial for sports injuries such as rotator cuff problems and knee injuries. It often achieves faster results than other rehabilitative modalities and gets patients back into the game.
